Some things it is good to be wary of: by Juleigh Howard-Hobson

Some things it is good to be wary of:
a full moon hung in a cloudless black night,
pale strangers with eyes that don’t blink enough,
three people using one match, catching sight
of silver quarters set out widdershins,
incomplete pentagrams, a sealed glass jar
containing hair and half a dozen pins,
the luck brought on by a broken mirror,
playing cards depicting the eight of spades,
hearing three knocks, then three more…then again,
the wheel of fortune Tarot card when laid
upside down, chalk circles with eleven
candles in them, clocks striking noon while bread
bakes, thirteen anythings, alive or dead.
