Cut down one tree and replace it with a wishing well deep as the night and dark as a raven’s love. Count how many birds you find, either in the city, or elsewhere. Write the number down on your palm, or an old sock, or at the bottom of a glass and tell your husband your lover a wayward, lonely ant a stray dog Did you know that today I saw 23 birds, and not a single one was alone?
