I Can't Stop Baking by Melody Wang

so I am gleefully trapped

in this high-fructose purgatory,

voluptuous curves slowly dissolving

into granulated sugar licking flames —

such a sweet surprise tucked

between layers, caramelized swirls

on tenacious tongues lovingly despised as candy corn

unrelenting fuel for the well-

buttered and bodacious contraption

known in these parts as My Gut;

so far from enigma, yet so close

to the ground is My Gut, protruding

from my shrinking jeans, cascading outward in

a proud self-sustaining muffin top propelled by desire,

it parts the curtains to reveal all I’ve hidden for too long
