Disco Angel by Thomas M. McDade

Railroad’s not responsible
For what goes on in its parking lots
An ill-fitting tape deck
Lives where the radio once did
Glove box full of disco tapes
Pumpkin seeds all over the place
The Honda upped and died I guess
Sales slip on the floor for a box of fuses
A container of antifreeze on the back seat
$600 to fix ignition and door
140-K miles on the odometer
Insurance company allows $25 a day
For a rental until another car bought
Mitsubishi Mirage a buck less
I strain my eyes checking
For words on a tiny
Guardian angel medal
I found on the floor
That let the thieves down
Just two, Protect Us
Fifteen feet from a trashcan
I sink every one of those
Cassettes: it’s as if they
Have radar or wings
Newly blessed
