Acrimony by Katy Naylor

You used to belong here
now your coat is a stranger on the hook
your shirts bristle starched hostility from the closet
your mug stares me down when I open the cupboard
You used to belong here
now your books sit in judgment on the shelf
your records hum silent disapproval
your toothbrush drips scorn
You used to belong here and so did I
now I'm a lodger in my own skin
I line up my pennies on the arm of the sofa
but I'm not sure I can make the rent
