A poem by Claire Taylor

I Can’t Decide if I Want a Second Child, So I Wait for the Universe to Send Me a Sign
out of nowhere
my four-year-old says he wants a baby
“a little sister” he adds
and I go silent
the only sound is the scream of
cicadas lining every tree branch
relentlessly
fucking
